St Deiniol's Library, Hawarden
Details of the Excursion
St Deiniol’s Library in Hawarden was founded in memory of William Ewart Gladstone, three times Prime Minister and one of the greatest men of the nineteenth century. His personal library of 32,000 books became the foundation of a living Residential library which to date numbers 250,000 books.
We will visit the impressive building which houses the library and be given a guided tour. There is also a small Gladstone Exhibition which can be seen after the tour.
We will also visit the church, where there is an excellent Burne Jones window and there will be an opportunity to look round the village, or follow the Hawarden Trail. There are excellent facilities for coffee and for lunch at the library.
