Details of the Excursion
Plas Newydd, situated amid spectacular scenery, the home of the Marquess of Anglesey and his family was re-designed in the 18C by James Wyatt.
The interior, restyled in the 1930’s, is famous for its association with the artist Rex Whistler, and many of his works can be seen. A military museum with trophies of the First Marquess of Waterloo, where he commanded the cavalry, is within the house.
A renowned garden and woodland walk leads to the shore-side Marine walk and optional boat cruises (weather permitting). A licensed tearoom, coffee shop, gift shop and second-hand bookshop are open all day. Courtesy buses convey visitors to the house and around the garden.
The group fee to Plas Newydd for non-National Trust members is £6 per person (2007) - see National Trust website for details.
