Excursion Details

Penmynydd nowadays is a collection of houses strung out along the Menai Bridge to Llangefni Road. In its heyday it was the base of one of the most powerful families in Anglesey – the dynasty of the Tudors, which included Henry VIII and Queen Elizabeth the First of England.

The house, Plas Penmynydd, was built in 1576 and it is believed to be on the same site as the one occupied by the Tudors. It was rebuilt in the C17th and has been refurnished extensively in recent years by the present owner, who uses it as his private dwelling.

The Penmynydd Church, some half-mile away, was built on the site of a C6th church. It was rebuilt in the C12th and later in the C14th. It was extensively restored in 1848 and 1969.

We hope to have guided tours of both House and Church.
